Rare circa 1850 opaline glass vase, Baccarat, Attributed to Jean-Francois Robert, extremely fine painted birds on front and obverse-Ostrich w/ young and large water bird, two variant of coconut palm trees and various other tropical flora amoung rocks, bay and mountain background landscapes, excellent gilt garlands around rim and on base of interlocking band with rocaille. 17.5 tall, 6 dia. Condition overall excellent, large flake on rim/outside edge 1.5w/. Possible bird examples - S.

Camelus, Red-necked Ostrich, North Africa and Glossy Ibis or Long billed curlew. I would appreciate any help in identification of the birds and foliage which seems to indicate Northern Africa species?? Possibly mountains, fauna and birds from Lake Victoria, Kenya, Africa. This vase is mate to one on display at Belmont, an exceptional historic Antebellum mansion on the campus of Belmont University, Nashville, TN.
