Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a stunning and huge 19th Century French opaline glass chalice with jeweled decoration. Measures 12 1/2" high with a 6" diameter top and a 5 1/2 diameter base. This attractive chalice features beautiful fleur-de-leis type design that is embellished with jade colored cabochon "jewels" (possibly glass but look like stones). The rim has a cathedral window type cut shape and has a gold painted edge.
The "knob" is encircled with the cabochon jewels and the pedestal base has a matching design as found on the upper bowl area, however, the design on the base is separated with jeweled gilded "snowflakes". This rare opaline chalice is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and no missing jewels that we could find. There may possibly be a jewel or two missing, however, we didn't find any missing. The foot ring also has a gold painted edge. This is an unusually large example of French opaline glass and is stunning with the green jade colored stones. This piece really makes a statement when displayed!
