He had patented a process for painting on glass during the 1830s and sought to capitalise upon this. The patent applied to a new type of enamel that could be annealed at the lower temperatures. A commercial partnership with Parisian retailer Launay Hautin and Compagnie was most ffruitful.
Launay Hautin were French distributors for many manufactories including Saint Louis and Baccarat.
