A beautiful pair of antique French green Opaline glass vases standing 27cm tall. The vases have a satin glass finish to the exterior but polished finish inside and each has an applied white Opaline snake coiled around the neck with gilded stylised snakeskin pattern. The tops of the vases are frilled and have a gilded band and white enamelled rim. The main body of each vase is decorated with a gilded repeating leaf pattern and the foot has a gilded band. As can be seen in my photographs the vases are a very pretty apple green but react vibrantly to black light.
Both vases have a concave ground and polished pontil and both are signed in gold - I have been unable to identify the maker except to say that these are French and date to around 1880. No chips, cracks or glass bruises, gilding still bright overall except to detailing on one of the snakes.
