This is a stunning piece of antique blue opaline glass from the well-renowned glass producer, Vallerysthal/Portieux of France. The piece features a hand holding a torch-shaped vase with a ruffled/flared rim in the "Jack in the Pulpit" style. This piece is in beautiful "used" antique condition with no chips or cracks. There is some overall loss of the gold paint (as is common for these pieces). The vase has a beautiful translucency when held up to the light, and a pontil on the underside denoting that this piece was hand-blown.

Measurements: Approx 1 1/2" opening diameter x 6" height. Vallerysthal/Portieux is a glass producer with a complex history. It was originally founded in 1836 in France, and called "Societe des Verreries Reunies de Plaine de Walsch et Vallerysthal". In 1870, this area of France became part of Germany, leading to issues exporting the Vallerysthal glasswares. The new name was registered in both French and German, and became the Vallerysthal/Portieux name we refer to today.

This robin's egg blue color is most unique to Vallerysthal/Portieux, and was produced by adding copper oxide to the glass mixture. I do my best to notice and point out any true defects, such as chips, cracks, paint loss, etc. Please read the bio and view all pictures, as this is part of the item description.
