Antique Victorian WMF Blue Opaline Glass Ruffled Compote Dish EPNS Pedestal Base. This beautiful antique Blue opaline glass compote is a fabulous piece of Victorian WMF tableware. Created in the late 19th or early 20th Century in a striking Tiffany Blue cased opaque glass with a satin finish & EPNS pedestal base, it really is a fantastic piece. I found many attributed examples stamped WMF & EPNS on either the rim of the base or the underside, however on this particular piece only the EP & NS hallmark style stamps are visible, though they are almost rubbed smooth. That said, it is widely attributed to WMF & the EPNS stamp is in the same place as those with the WMF stamp so I've no reason to suspect its an imposter! Regardless, with its stunning blue opaline dish with deep pleated ruffled rim and ornate bordered pedestal base, it is a fabulous piece of art glassware and will make a delightful addition to any collection or display! Condition is'Used' - There is a scuff to the back of one'ruffle' it could be a chip or possibly a manufacturing fault also the glass is marked in places especially to the underside of the bowl as the satin finish has made the glass quite porous, also in-between the ruffles/pleats are marked. Aging to metalware also in the form of a darkening and patina in places. Just under 16cm tall, 24cm wide at widest point (across bowl) the base is 9.5cm wide and 8cm tall. Bowl part is around 7.5cm deep but it varies slightly due to the ruffled edging.
