Art Deco 1930's OPALESCENT NESTING BIRDS CENTREPIECE BOWL 10. This listing is for a most appealing and attractive opalescent blue bird bowl. The opal fire produced by the addition of gold to the glass along with salts.... Very nice amber glow fire. The last photo shows the effect with a light box under.

EXCELLENT CONDITION with no chips. If you need further information please do not hesitate to message me.. There are three kinds of glass which are called "Opalescent". One is the blue-tinged semi-opaque or clear glass with milky opalescence in its centre, typical of Lalique, Sabino, and Jobling's.

The three tiny fishes above show this kind of opalescence. The opalescent colour is produced by the slower cooling of the molten glass in those parts which are thick, causing some crystallization inside the glass.

This kind of opalescent glass glows a golden colour when light shines through from behind it, and a beautiful blue when light shines onto the surface from the front. I try to describe all the items as accurately and as honestly as possible, and I always include photos or scans of the actual items.

Anything major such as cracks chips or major loss of gilding etc will be pointed out in the description and shown on the photos. If you are still unsure as to the condition etc. My items are usually vintage or antique, very rarely new, and condition will sometimes reflect this with minor marks, wear on gilding etc.
