Early Fenton Vaseline Opalescent Hobnail Pedestal Cake Stand-Cake Plate-1940s

  

The Fenton company of West Virginia produced numerous patterns throughout the history which reached major popularity at the time of their release. One such pattern was the hobnail. This pattern was first released in the late 1930s, again in the late 50s, and a third time in the 1980s. Depending on the color, the company produced anywhere from a couple dozen to almost 100 different shapes in this pattern.

One very desirable shape is the pedestal cake plate. This cake stand was made in most of the colors but is especially popular in the Vaseline/uranium opalescent hue. From research this cake stand was first released in 1941 and ran two years. A second release was in 1959 and again it was made in the 1980s, however the last run was always marked with the oval Benton logo.

This piece is pre-logo, hence, it was either produced in 1941 or 1959. A massive size, the top of the stand measures 12 1/2 across, stands 4 3/4 tall with a base of 5 diameter. I have thoroughly checked this tray over and can find absolutely no chips, cracks, damage or repairs.

I will mention for accuracy that there are three mold seam lines visible as well as a couple of very minor straw marks. These aspects are fairly common in glass produced at this time in history.
