Lct Tiffany Favrile, Onyx Opalescent, Vertical Ribbing Vase, Nice Unique Form

  
The item is known as a Onyx Opalescent Vase. It is done in Tiffany's early Favrile opalescent glass. This vase is a nice size as it stands 4" tall and the top opening has a diameter of 4 1/2" outside measurements. The foot has a diameter of 2 1/4. The vase displays a translucent onyx style of art glass with swirls and vertical ribbing. This vase has a very deep well that is 3 5/8 deep. The vertical ribbing comes out of the bottom of the vase and rises up to the top lip at a slight angle. At the shoulder of the vessel is a raised bulge that circles the entire piece. The vase is very delicate as it has very thin glass. This onyx style glass with its swirls has a very pleasing effect when the light comes through it. The lower section has a translucent green and the upper section having an opalescence effect to it. You can clearly see the ribbing as well as feel it. The bottom of the vase shows an amber/brown color in the center pontil area. This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. Truly a very excellent example of this form and color. The vase is properly signed with the counter clockwise etched number that reads "2303" in the counter sunk polished pontil. This is how Tiffany marked his early glass in the beginning years.

It is documented that he numbered his pieces up to 9999 and stopped blowing for that year once it hit 10,000. These were the very beginning years of his glass blowing. This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York.
