Rene Lalique French Opalescent Art Glass Bowl in the Chicoree Design c1925

  

An Art Deco period opalescent glass bowl by the French glass maker Rene Lalique. This design is known as'Chicoree' and uses the leaf design of this plant as the pattern. Lalique was well known for using natural forms in his designs during the Art Deco period and Lalique were of course the pre-eminent art glass producer of this style. This is the largest bowl in this design being just short of 24 cm in diameter. The opalescence of this example is more subtle than usual, but the blue tint does still show on a black ground with soft lighting as you can see in the images.

The bowl dates around 1925 and has the R Lalique France etched signature to the center interior of the bowl. Very good order, very little wear or scratches to the interior.

Some small streak lines in the surface and at the rim caused by trapped air bubbles escaping during moulding and very common in Lalique of this period.
